Placeblogger | Blogging about places

January 2nd, 2007 by edtechlab

Placeblogger is for those who write, opine and produce discourse about a local area… I imagine there may be some brave educational bloggers who may join this online directory of news from the street and neighborhood front. Something to think about. The folks behind this are top notch.

BrainKeeper - New Wiki Service for Organizations

December 29th, 2006 by edtechlab

BrainKeeper - Capture, Collaborate and Distribute Key Company Knowledge

A new enterprise wiki that is available for small groups to the enterprise.

Since I have been out the game of writing about online services, I may not be accurate on makes this service different from other wiki services. Bringing a hierarchy to wiki pages may seem new but I first saw it in Hieraki, a rails app wiki who’s development has stopped unfortunately. I think it is a good idea to give an organization an easy way to keep order to documents. This service starts at 5 dollars a month for 3 accounts. I like the spell check and search feature , which enables you to search documents uploaded. The workflow and permission service is a new feature that is coming soon online. There is a free trial period.

CollectiveX - Groupware Web Service goes A la Carte

August 16th, 2006 by edtechlab

CollectiveX is now offering a basic subscription of their groupware service for free. In their new promotion, the core services are free.

  • Unlimited members
  • Social Networking features
  • 1 Shared Calendar
  • Discussion Forum
  • 10 Megabytes of storage for sharing files and media.

You can buy additional features which come with a monthly fee that are all set at $9 dollars.

  • Remove Advertising
  • Group Permission Controls
  • Enhanced Security
  • Additional Storage Space  3 gigs.

This free core services may be ideal for small workgroups who need to work more around communication issues than share large amounts of files. 10 megabytes is not a lot of storage space. Any educators using CollectiveX?

If you are thinking about buying additional services, then I would do the math and compare the offering with Basecamp by 37 signals.

Gliffy: Summertime Gliffy updates, 35K registered users

August 1st, 2006 by edtechlab

For those keeping track of Web 2+ developments, Gliffy offers the client a diagram online application web service. The service is still in early beta for my taste but we will wait and see.

Gliffy Blog » Blog Archive » Summertime Gliffy updates, 35K registered users
We’ve just released a new version of Gliffy which includes a snap-to-grid feature. This was a much requested feature by many users. Any current document will have snap-to-grid disabled by default, but new documents will have snap-to-grid enabled by default. To change snap-to-grid for a document, click on a blank area of the stage, and select the ’snap to grid’ checkbox.

We’ve also fixed a number of bugs. We appreciate all the feedback you have provided us and your patience as we improve the service. We did have some down time in the last two months, and we are working diligently to ensure maximum uptime moving forward. Notable bug fixes include:

Development Blog › WordPress 2.0.4 Released

August 1st, 2006 by edtechlab

WordPress recommends that WordPress users upgrade to version 2.0.4
I moved my blog from lightpress to Wordpress 2.0.4.  The geeky stuff is too much when I have little time. I may still add lightpress to WordPress 2 when it becomes stable and the install process is easier.

Development Blog › WordPress 2.0.4
WordPress 2.0.4, the latest stable release in our Duke series, is available for immediate download. This release contains several important security fixes, so it’s highly recommended for all users. We’ve also rolled in a number of bug fixes (over 50!), so it’s a pretty solid release across the board.
