Posting With Windows Live Writer

August 14th, 2006 by edtechlab

I am taking advantage of my son`s absence to download and try out Microsoft`s new desktop blogging application Live Writer. My son uses Windows.

At the start up, it asks you if you want a Live Spaces blog. The last thing I need is another blog. I declined and went to the next window to configure Live Writer to my EduGenic blog. It was painless. I gave LW my domain, login name and password. LW automatically configures itself so you are then off and running quickly. This is great for the beginner. LW works with the major blog systems like Google`s Blogger and Live Journal, Typepad and Wordpress.

One can easily insert links and photos. You can add embed music or video players and maps. I tried to add a map, but it didn`t work. It may be because I am using a XP Latin American version.

So if you want a cool and easy to use desktop blog editor for your Windows box, you have it here. Remember, this is a beta, so you may get a more robust program when it comes out of beta.

update: Here is the link that I forgot.

There was was talk at Techcrunch and about the lack of a Mac version.  Om Malik says that Mac users already have mature apps with plenty of bells and whistles. I have to agree. I work well without Microsoft Apps in general. In terms of desktop blog editors for the Mac, it is hard to beat Ecto and Mars Edit. I have to also say that Qumana is good and FREE! When the coversation about desktop blog editors comes up I get nostalgic about Userland’s Radio, which was the bomb until development seemed to have stopped.  Radio was way ahead of its time. Don’t get my started. Too be honest, I now prefer using the WP Dashboard to get work done.
